Research on Lynching

My research on lynching began during graduate school, when I was project manager for an NSF project (SES-0521339, PI Stewart E. Tolnay), and has resulted in multiple journal articles and a co-authored book. With this project, we located the census records of close to 1,000 documented lynch victims, and have been able to compare their characteristics to those of other people in the communities that experienced a lynching.

I am currently principal investigator on an NSF grant (SES-1338616) that replicates the search process we used in this earlier project to identify census records for individuals who were threatened with lynching but not, ultimately, killed.
